He returned to action at the last World Cup event in Azerbaijan, his first since Paris 2024, but was disappointed when he failed to qualify for the final, but he made a comeback in Turkey and won gold.

McClenahan posted on his social media that it was “done.”

“I will leave this World Cup with a gold medal but there is still a lot of work to do.

“I’ve got to heal some injuries and just generally get better at this practice, which I know I can.”

Further success for Ireland saw James Hickey finish third behind McClenaghan in the pommel horse event.

In the floor exercise, Eamon Montgomery performed well in the final and won the silver medal.

Montgomery advanced to the finals in fifth place, but his performance earned him the silver medal with a time of 13.833.

Gymnastics Ireland chief executive Ciaran Gallagher said it was a “fantastic result”.

“This is a great return to the track for our guys,” Gallagher said.

“Reese is back on the podium, Eamonn deserves a medal back after a long road back to competition and James deserves a medal as one of the youngest gymnasts in the field.”
