Several Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar + Grill restaurants across the country have recently closed as parent company Dine Brands reshapes the chain amid rising costs, USA TODAY Network reports. The shakeup brings a familiar question to local diners: Will Daytona-area Applebee’s be affected?

The popular chain, founded in Decatur, Georgia, in 1980, has at least 1,500 locations in the U.S. and overseas, each known for serving “delicious and affordable meals, refreshing and fun beverages, and a casual atmosphere,” according to its website.
In its annual report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in March 2025, Dine Brands, which also owns IHOP and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, noted that franchisees face increasing operating pressures, including rising fuel, food and utility costs, USA TODAY Network recently reported.
Outside of Florida, the brand has closed a franchise in Columbia, Missouri, and two stores in Evansville, Indiana, while another store in upstate New York is scheduled to close in April, USA TODAY Network reported.
As of February, Applebee’s had nearly 80 locations in Florida, but that number has dropped with the March 9 closing of the chain’s only Ormond Beach restaurant at 150 N. Williamson Blvd., which is now listed online as permanently closed and has been removed from the official Applebee’s website.
The Ormond location is one of three remaining Applebee’s restaurants in Volusia County following the closing of the Daytona Beach restaurant at 1700 W. International Speedway Blvd., Unit 600, last year. The chain has locations at 1390 Dunlawton Ave. in Port Orange and 2599 Enterprise Road in Orange City.
According to the same USA TODAY Network report, at least three more Applebee’s locations in Florida will close by 2025, including one in Gainesville, Pinellas Park and St. Petersburg.
