Julian Brandt is leaving Borussia Dortmund. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 29-year-old midfield maestro will become a free agent after the player and club failed to reach an agreement during contract negotiations.
Brandt’s future at Dortmund has been up in the air and now his departure seems certain. This is a huge blow for Dortmund. Brandt is arguably Dortmund’s most creative player and one of the club’s most consistent players, with a combined goal/assist total of 15 or more in each of the past five seasons, although he may not reach that number this season.

There really isn’t a single player on the team who can step up and fill Brandt’s role as a playmaker. Dortmund need to find a replacement in the transfer market. This will only add to the growing list of priorities Sebastian Kehl needs to address in the summer, especially if the club are unable to sign Nico Schlotterback. His work is done.
