March 3 (Reuters) – Apple Inc launched a line of MacBook laptops on Tuesday, starting at $1,099, as it looks to attract customers with new hardware in a shrinking PC market facing a shortage of memory chips.
The MacBook line, which spans MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, is a core part of its personal computing business and the company’s push into custom chips.
Since starting its transition from Intel processors to its own M-series chips in 2020, Apple has touted improvements in performance and battery life that have helped differentiate it from makers of Windows-based PCs.
MacBook Air laptops start at $1,099 for the 13-inch screen model, while the MacBook Pro series with the M5 Pro chip starts at $2,199.
Mac’s revenue share is lower than that of iPhone, but it still has important strategic significance, especially in education, creative industries and high-end consumer fields.
