Bluepoint Games was reportedly pitching a remake of FromSoftware’s beloved PlayStation exclusive Bloodborne before Sony decided to shut down the studio. According to Bloomberg, Bluepoint proposed the idea to Sony in early 2025 after its live-streaming service God of War project was canceled, but FromSoftware was not convinced. The PlayStation parent company rejected other offers from the studio, ultimately deciding to close the studio last month.
Bluepoint launches Bloodborne remaster
Jason Schreier reported on the events leading up to Bluepoint’s closure in a Bloomberg newsletter published Saturday. As previously reported, the studio Sony acquired in 2021 is behind Santa Monica’s God of War Ragnarok and continues to develop the live-streaming service God of War as part of Sony’s games-as-a-service push.
According to reports, the game will tell the story of Kratos’ son Atreus who fell into the Greek Hell Hades and fought his way out of it. The live service game reportedly includes a cooperative gaming component. However, Bluepoint has encountered difficulties with the project, the report said. Sony canceled the live-streaming service of the God of War game in January 2025 and made a broader retreat from its shaky live-streaming service strategy.
The report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Bluepoint then proposed a Bloodborne remaster in early 2025 and was told that the numbers “made sense” but that FromSoftware did not want the remaster to happen.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Sony seems to want to continue remaking Bloodborne, but developer FromSoftware is opposed to the idea. Bluepoint Games has previously developed a remake of another FromSoftware game, Demon’s Souls. The game was released as a PS5 launch title and received widespread critical acclaim.
Bloodborne launched exclusively on PS4 in 2015, with the frame rate still locked at 30 fps. The game has yet to receive a patch to improve PS5 performance. Bloodborne has yet to be ported to other platforms. However, fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting a remaster or a PC version that updates the game’s visuals and performance. Bloodborne is considered one of the greatest games of all time.
Last month, Sony announced it had decided to shut down Bluepoint “following a recent business review.” Approximately 70 Bluepoint employees will be laid off following the studio closure. Bluepoint will officially close this month.
