Bracketology Watch: Canes Continuing to Climb Up Projected Brackets

The Miami Hurricanes went 1-1 last week and took a huge opportunity to beat Virginia on the road, but then bounced back to beat Florida State in Tallahassee to avenge an early-season loss to the Seminoles.

Even with the loss to Virginia, Miami edged up a bit this week:

Miami has three games remaining in the regular season:

  • Boston College (home) – Saturday, February 28, 2:00 pm ET on ACCN

  • SMU (away) – Wednesday, March 4, 7:00 PM ET on ACCN

  • Louisville (home) – Saturday, March 7, 2:00 PM ET on ESPN

Saturday’s game against Boston College was Miami’s last possible “bad” loss. Taking care of business, Miami should officially lock up a berth in the NCAA Tournament and still have some chance to continue climbing up the prognosticators’ rankings.

Miami also took control of its own destiny, earning a coveted double bye into the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. The Hurricanes hold sole possession of third place in the conference standings and go head-to-head with North Carolina and NC State, who are one game behind.

The ACC overall looks like an eight-bid conference, or possibly nine, depending on how Cal and VT fare down the stretch. Cal suffered arguably the second-worst loss of the season for Miami, which has won three straight and is now on the bubble. They played Pitt, GT and Wake Forest throughout the year. As for Virginia Tech, they get a chance to resume their progress on the road against North Carolina and Virginia. Clemson, on the other hand, has lost its last four games, falling completely from lockdown to bubble status.
