Bulls G Anfernee Simons out indefinitely with wrist fracture after leaving loss to Pistons early

The Chicago Bulls will be without new guard Anfernee Simons indefinitely.

Imaging of Simmons’ left wrist showed he aggravated a previous fracture in the team’s loss to the Detroit Pistons on Saturday. It’s unclear how long Simmons will be out.

Simmons missed the second half of the Bulls’ 126-110 loss to the Pistons on Saturday with what the team initially said was a sprain. But imaging revealed a broken bone, which Donovan said actually stemmed from an old injury he suffered while still with the Boston Celtics.

“The fracture hasn’t fully healed, and I think he went to see a hand specialist and they felt like, you know, once the pain subsided, he could go back to playing,” Donovan said. “The last time this happened to him, it was in training camp in Boston. About a week or 10 days or so.”

An agreement was reached before the deadline earlier this month in exchange for center Nikola Vučević. Since arriving in Chicago, he has played in six games with the Bulls, averaging 15.2 points and 3 assists per game.

Simmons is in his eighth season in the league. The Portland Trail Blazers drafted him 24th overall in 2018 after spending his first seven seasons there.

The Bulls are just 24-34 heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets. They have won nine straight and have lost 12 of their last 13 games. They currently sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings with 23 games remaining in the regular season and are on track to miss the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
