Far east Tennessee is under a winter weather warning with “occasional snow showers Monday night,” according to the National Weather Service. Some schools closed or delayed openings.
Snow accumulations of up to 4 inches are expected (even higher at the tops of the Great Smoky Mountains), and the weather will be very cold and windy.
“Plan for slippery road conditions. Hazardous road conditions may affect Monday morning and evening commutes,” the weather service warned.
Much of East Tennessee faces a dangerous weather outlook as light snow begins to fall and temperatures drop. No heavy snow is expected in Knoxville or Oak Ridge, where schools are still in session as scheduled.
Here are the schools that are closed or delayed. The list will be updated.
