Microsoft’s first-party games are the best-selling games on PS5 this year. Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 is the best-selling game on PS5 in 2025, according to Alinea Analytics. The open-world racing game is said to have sold 3 million copies since its release on the PlayStation platform in April. Microsoft has pushed to launch more Xbox exclusive games on PS5 in 2025 and plans to release more first-party games on rival platforms this year.
Forza Horizon 5 is a hit on PS5
Alinea Analytics estimates that Forza Horizon 5 has sold more than 3 million copies on PS5, nearly four years after it first launched on Xbox and PC, making it the biggest new game on PS5 in 2025. The sales represent a significant return for Microsoft on its rival platforms as the Xbox parent company shifts to multi-platform releases.
Playground Games’ racing game passed a sales milestone last week, Alinea claimed in a newsletter on Tuesday. In the process, “Forza Horizon 5” surpassed “Monster Hunter: Wild” to become the best-selling PS5 game in 2025. Capcom’s action role-playing game sold 2.9 million copies on PS5 this year, according to a market analysis company.
“Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” (2 million), “Elden Ring Nightreign” (1.4 million) and “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” (1.3 million) tie for the top five best-selling PS5 games in 2025.
According to the company, during its most recent sale, Forza received a 25% discount and sales passed the 3 million mark. Alinea’s data shows that the racing game has sold more units on PS5 than last year’s Game of the Year winner “Astro Bot” (Sony’s first-party game).

In May, Sony released its April digital store best-selling game rankings, confirming that “Forza Horizon 5” was the best-selling game on the European PlayStation Store that month and the third best-selling game in the United States.
Forza Horizon 5 launches on PS5 on April 29. The game was first released on Xbox and PC in November 2021.
