Salt Lake City(ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that they will close their conference center until March 2027 except for major events.
The convention center hosts a variety of performances and tours throughout the year, and features a 21,000-seat auditorium, rooftop gardens, and multiple historical and art exhibitions. It is also used in semi-annual general conferences sponsored by the church.
However, starting March 30, 2026, and continuing through March 1, 2027, the Convention Center will be closed to the public, with limited exceptions.

The church announced Wednesday that access to the conference center will be limited to general conference and major scheduled events in April and October 2026, such as the Luz de las Naciones and Tabernacle Choir Christmas concerts.
The center’s parking lot will remain open and operational. However, any use of church ministries, public tours and exhibitions will be closed.
The purpose of the closure is to “facilitate critical construction, infrastructure upgrades and exhibit development in preparation for the Salt Lake Temple Celebration,” according to an internal communication sent to church employees.

“This operational pause is critical to enable the project team to execute the significantly expanded scope of work and ensure the facility is fully prepared to support planned enhancements to the guest experience in 2027,” the communication reads.
President Russell M. Nelson announced renovations to the Salt Lake City Temple in 2019. Since then, the temple has carried out seismic upgrades, foundation isolation, structural reinforcement and other work to ensure the safety of the temple.
According to the church, they have removed the scaffolding and completed renovations inside the temple. Additionally, rugs, benches, and chandeliers were recently added.
