How to Compress Videos on Your iPhone

iPhone is considered to have some of the best cameras for making videos. Even the latest iPhone 13 series has features like improved cameras and movie video recording mode. While the iPhone’s video quality is impressive, saved videos can also take up a lot of storage space. These large video files cannot be attached to emails because they have attachment size limits. Apple has not yet introduced a default method for compressing video on the iPhone.

Best practice is to record in a lower quality compressed video than other available modes such as 4K or 1080p. But if you’ve already recorded a video and need to shrink it, it’s easy to do with the right tool. Here’s everything you need to know.

How to compress video on iPhone

There is no default video compression method on the iPhone. Users will need to rely on third-party applications to compress large videos. We’ve mentioned one such reliable app that we tested and demonstrated the process below, but there are several video compression apps available in app stores.

Alternatively, you can simply record at a lower quality to save space – to do this, simply change the recording quality, go to Settings > Camera > Record video. But to change the size of an existing video, follow these simple steps to compress videos on iPhone using a video compression app.

  1. Once installed, click on the giant “+” sign on the homepage.

  2. The app will request relevant permissions, such as access to the Photos app. Press OK. Video Compressor will then show you a list of all videos available in your camera roll.

  3. Click on the video you want to compress. Users can select multiple videos for compression at one time.

  4. The app will now show users options for the level of compression they want for their videos. Presets available in the video compression app include Full HD quality, compressed to 28.6MB per minute, and minimum 360p, compressed to 3.6MB per minute. Choose your preferred option.

  5. Video compression will then ask the user to select the target album. If the options provided don’t work, users can select “Add New Album” at the bottom.

  6. Once the target is selected, the video compression process begins. This process takes about 30 seconds.

  7. Finally, the app asks the user to choose whether they want to keep the original video or delete it. The new compressed video will also appear in the target album and camera roll.
