Las Vegas Raiders head coach Clint Kubiak is assembling his first coaching staff. The most important recruitment has been announced. Kubiak hired Andrew Janocko as his offensive coordinator and Rob Leonard as his defensive coordinator.
Gianoco is the quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks and has worked with Kubiak on several occasions. Leonard is the Raiders’ defensive line coach and running game coordinator. Lack of experience in current roles is a worrying theme across senior roles.

Kubiak, Gianoco and Leonard are all under 40 years old. They have a combined zero years of experience with the new rules. Kubiak has never been a head coach, and Janoko/Leonard have never been NFL coordinators before.
This comes with risks. It’s worth noting that Kubiak is trying to add experience elsewhere. He hired former Chargers and Titans head coach Mike McCoy as his assistant head coach. Joe DeCamillis, 60, is the special teams coordinator. DeCamillis won two Super Bowls in the role.
But it was Kubiak, Gianoco and Leonard who had the biggest coaching impact on the Raiders. The benefits are exciting, but the downsides are also worrisome. The Raiders are betting on youth after teasing the aging Pete Carroll, but that comes with risks.
