Since 2024, a large number of senior executives and managers have been leaving Tesla, which experts consider to be a massive brain drain.
The trend points to growing dissatisfaction with the automaker as it turns to robotics and artificial intelligence.
Electrek reports that “Benjamin Bate, director of vehicle operations and engineering at Tesla Fremont, has left the automaker after more than eight years… [It] Now, experienced talent continues to leave Tesla. “
Tesla is losing talent from every corner of its workforce, from principal engineers and program managers to model manufacturing executives, sales executives and vehicle designers. One commenter even noted that people seemed to be “leaving the sinking ship.”
In addition to concerns about the company’s spiral, Tesla reportedly has serious employee morale issues. According to Electrek, high-level, high-value employees are losing interest in their jobs because “Tesla is no longer innovating or pushing the envelope in the automotive space.”
Compared with other electric car manufacturers such as Chevrolet, BMW, Ford, and even luxury brands such as Porsche, Tesla has not made major vehicle performance upgrades in recent years.
Tesla’s lack of growth as an automaker has eroded its once-immense position as an electric vehicle staple, turning it into a laggard that appears to be making no effort to compensate. Tesla customers could be negatively impacted by this because the automaker they own is no longer focused on these cars.
As Tesla sales continue to decline—one 2025 report showed a nearly 28% year-over-year decline—those who own a Tesla may be worried. Without high demand, service may be reduced or become unreliable. Additionally, consumers suffer from higher prices and overall industry downturns due to reduced competition.
While Tesla’s innovation in electric vehicles may lag behind its competitors, many other options have emerged since Tesla took the first step.
With affordable prices and constant upgrades and improvements, China’s BYD has become the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer. Companies that haven’t put much effort into the EV market are now joining the growing EV space.
As greener battery mining and sustainable production processes become mainstream, electric vehicles are increasingly becoming a better choice than traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.
