Did you see Mike Florio and Chris Simms criticize the coordinator hire Washington head coach Dan Quinn has made?
It may reveal what NFL Nation is really thinking. This is must-see TV on Pro Football Talk, and Sims in particular raised his voice in an impassioned call for Dan Quinn to hire defensive coordinator Daronte Jones and offensive coordinator David Braff for the Commander-in-Chief.
Here is some of the correspondence between Florio and Sims.

Florio: “Both first-time coordinators in Dan Quinn and, based on last year, Chris will be on at least the preliminary hot seat roster for 2026. It’s inevitable; it’s part of the job, that’s how it works.”
Sims: “When you add those two decisions in here, I think what you’re doing here puts you in a tough spot. You’re unhappy with your quarterback changing offensive coordinator, who he loves and has a relationship with, is great and is the best offensive coordinator in the sport in Kliff Kingsbury One of the transfer guys? And you hire a guy who’s never done anything like that? Yeah, we’re watching it. I mean it’s one of the craziest moves of the offseason by Kliff Kingsbury, everything he does, he’s getting better.”
Sims: “Jaden Daniels, even without him, the offense isn’t the problem. The defense is the problem. The head coach coaches the defense… He’s going to bring in other people to run a different scheme than what he’s done before, coach the defense! It just doesn’t make sense! Absolutely not!”
Florio: “The fact that they resorted to Bluff could be another situation where a coordinator who’s experienced and good at selection looks at the situation and says, ‘I’m not going to let everybody get fired. Everybody’s job is going to be up to me.’ “

Sims: “David Burrow was a practice squad quarterback two years ago. (Three years ago, actually). Now he’s calling plays for Washington and Jayden Daniels? Yeah, that’s a hell of a decision to make. It better all work out!”
Florio: “This is a big leap for David Braff…”
Some of Sims’ reactions were a bit extreme. Can they prove it to be true? certainly. But Quinn knew he was taking a risk. He felt strongly that this was the right move. Sims sounds more like Kingsbury’s agent. While Kingsbury is one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL in 2024, there have been issues in 2025, some of which are due to injuries.
There are 21 offensive coordinator vacancies this offseason, including Washington’s. No one hired Kingsbury for the position. The Rams did hire him, but only for a staff role, not as offensive coordinator.
Time will tell.
