Every day, more details are released about the investigation into what happened to Savannah Guthrie’s mother. Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her home between the night of January 31 and the morning of February 1, when her family reported her missing. Although there have been updates since then, it seems like only now are we any closer to finding out what happened.
According to multiple media reports, police even detained a man for questioning over the kidnapping, but he has since been released. The man, Carlos, 36, told the media new york times He was in his car in Rio de Janeiro, Arizona, on Tuesday when police approached him and then detained him. He was detained for several hours and then released.

“I hope they catch the suspect because I’m not a suspect,” he said in an interview. “They better do their job and find the suspect so they can clear my name.”
TMZ reports that law enforcement believes the kidnappers are from the Tucson area and wrote the ransom note and sent it to multiple Tucson television stations and TMZ. In the note, the kidnappers promised to return Nancy Guthrie within 12 hours after receiving the ransom, which was set at $6 million.
The arrest follows the first real break in the case, when the FBI obtained and released surveillance photos and videos of a potential suspect. All of this comes after rumors circulated in the first days after Guthrie’s disappearance that Anne’s husband, Tommaso Cione, was a suspect in the investigation. However, the police quickly dealt with the matter.
“At this time, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives are continuing to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, sharing unsubstantiated accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation. Nancy Guthrie and her late husband, Charles, had three children: Savannah, Annie and Camron. Savannah Guthrie has been absent from “Today” since February 2. She and her siblings posted multiple videos on Instagram pleading for their mother’s safe return.
In a video posted on Saturday, February 7, the siblings said they would pay the ransom. “We received your message and we understand. We are begging you now to return our mother to us so we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we can have peace. This is of great value to us and we will pay the price.”
