United’s first real chance came from Harry Maguire’s header which went wide.

Luke Shaw nearly put United ahead with his first-time shot just before the half-hour mark, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka cleared the ball away.

Tomas Soucek broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, guiding Jarrod Bowen’s low pass into the far corner for his third goal against United.

In the 63rd minute, Casemiro headed the ball into the net from Kobe Mainu’s cross. He thought he had tied the score with Manchester United, but his shot was ruled offside.

Benjamin Sesco saved a point for United with a clever finish in stoppage time to maintain interim manager Michael Carrick’s unbeaten run.
