Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott failed to issue an ultimatum to U.S. athletes competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics after some said they were dissatisfied with the state of affairs in the United States under Donald Trump’s administration.
“Anyone who represents the U.S. in the Olympics and then says they don’t want to represent the U.S. should take off their Olympic uniform immediately,” Scott angrily said in a video shared on X.
Trump aide Scott wrote in the video’s caption that the United States is “a beacon of freedom and democracy” — though he doesn’t want athletes to use free speech to express themselves.

Critics on social media pointed out that loving America does not mean agreeing with every Trump policy. They also defend athletes’ rights to express their opinions.
