Patriots prepared to use Super Bowl LX as motivation in the future

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Fuel.

That’s what many players on the New England Patriots said after Sunday’s Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It certainly wasn’t the team’s prettiest game, and they are now more motivated than ever to get back as soon as possible, this time, to take home the ultimate prize.

“That’s what motivates you,” quarterback Derek Meyer said. “That’s what we talk about in the locker room. That’s what gives you motivation. That’s what happens to you sometimes in life, and that’s how you bounce back.

“I think all the guys in the locker room are going to use that as fuel, and you can go to war with these guys anytime, anywhere. To be back here and not have that feeling anymore, but to have that feeling that they have out there, that’s the motivation.”

Cornerback Marcus Jones reiterated that message.

“We hate the result, but at the end of the day, we have to use it as fuel for next year,” the cornerback explained. “We built a brotherhood that won’t be repeated in the NFL. We’re happy with the situation we overcame, but at the end of the day, we hate the outcome. We’re going to learn from this and try to get back here next year and win.”

And Harold Landry.

“Yeah, I mean, I think we’re definitely going to use that as fuel,” the linebacker detailed. “It’s kind of crazy how close you become to your teammates over the course of a season. It sure sucks, but I don’t think it’s going to impact the relationships we’ve built this year or our growth as a team. I think we’ll learn from this experience and come back to OTAs hungry and eager to improve.”

As for Jaylin Hawkins, he hopes to turn the page but also doesn’t remember what the loss felt like.

“It stings. It stings, man,” he said. “We’re all in this together. We lost together. We’ll remember that and come back next year.”

Robert Spillane believes the Patriots will be stronger than ever next season.

“Yeah, it hurts. It hurts. You devote your whole life to a moment like this, to the top of your sport, and it hurts. In the meantime, we’re going to bounce back,” he said. “We’re going to do everything we can to bounce back and get better next year.”
