How to Make UPI Payments Without an Internet Connection: A Step-by-Step Guide

Have you ever faced a situation where you are sending money online using Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe or any other UPI payment service and your internet connection stops working for some reason? If yes, then *99#, a mobile banking service based on USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), can be really helpful for you. It lets you request and send money, change your UPI PIN, and even check your account balance without an internet connection.

*99# service provides banking services to everyone across the country. It is offered by 83 leading banks and 4 telecom service providers and can be accessed in 13 different languages ​​including Hindi and English. You can follow the steps below to set it up and make offline UPI payments.

Set up offline UPI payments

  1. Dial *99# on your smartphone or feature phone. However, please make sure you make this call from the same phone number associated with your bank account, otherwise this service will not work.

  2. Then, select your Required language and enter your Bank name.

  3. You will see a list of bank accounts associated with your number, so press the correct option to select the account you want to use.

  4. Now, enter the last Debit card 6 digit number next to expiration date.

  5. Once set up successfully, you can make UPI payments without an internet connection, as explained in the next steps.

Make offline UPI payments

  1. dial *99# Enter on your phone 1 Send money.
  2. Select your desired option and enter the UPI ID/phone number/bank account number of the person you want to send money to.
  3. Then, enter the amount and your UPI PIN.
  4. Once done, your payment will be completed successfully and you will be charged up to Rs. $0.50 per transaction using *99# service.
