Louisville could see its next snowfall on February 3 as temperatures are expected to warm, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville.
While precipitation may begin in the morning, NWS Louisville meteorologist Brian Schoettmer said the system is expected to begin increasing in the afternoon and evening. Precipitation will likely start as a mix of rain and snow before turning to flurries in the late afternoon and early evening, with a half-inch of dust expected in Louisville.
“We don’t have a lot of snow accumulation right now in Louisville, mainly because when it snows tomorrow afternoon and evening, we’re going to actually get temperatures above freezing,” Schoettmer said.
Accumulation totals may vary depending on the dividing line between snowfall and rainfall.
“It’s going to be a tricky one because with the rain/snow line and the above-freezing temperatures, it’s hard to tell if it’s going to accumulate on the roadways,” Shortmer said. “We’re definitely going to be keeping an eye on it very hard today and tomorrow.”
Schoettmer said the Feb. 3 system could create slick patches on roads during the night commute, but warmer temperatures could help limit the danger.
“Be prepared for the trip home to be chaotic and maybe take some extra time,” he said.
After Feb. 3, Louisville could see more snow on Feb. 6, though Schoettmer said the snow will likely stay in the northeastern part of the metro area.
