Sony Announces State of Play Livestream for September 24, Will Reveal Saros Gameplay

Sony has announced that it will host a State of Play livestream on Wednesday, September 24, which will bring updates and reveals from first- and third-party developers. The PlayStation parent company has confirmed that the demo will focus on Saros, the upcoming roguelike bullet hell shooter from Returnal developer Housemarque. The game was revealed at the first State of Play event in February.

The next episode of State of Play will be broadcast live on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels on September 24 at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET / 11 pm CEST (2:30 am IST on September 25). The show is over 35 minutes long and contains approximately 5 minutes of Saros gameplay.

“We’ll be sharing new looks at highly anticipated third-party and indie games, as well as updates from some of the teams at PlayStation Studios, including an in-depth look at Saros, Housemarque’s mysterious new game launching next year. Stay tuned for nearly five minutes of gameplay footage captured on PS5,” Sony said in an announcement on its PlayStation Blog on Tuesday.

What to expect from game status

A leak last week heralded the return of State of Play at the end of this month. Industry insiders have previously reported that Sony plans to hold a game showcase in September.

Saros was unveiled at the State of Play in February and is confirmed to be released in 2026. In addition to sharing gameplay, Housemarque may also reveal the game’s release date at the event. Sony has yet to confirm what will be included in the next State of Play installment aside from Saros, but the company is reportedly preparing to show off a new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine at the event. A report earlier this month claimed that developer Insomniac Games has completed work on a new trailer for The Wolverine and the footage is ready for release.

According to reports, Sony “almost certainly” plans to reveal the latest information on “Wolverine” at its State of Play event in September or the 2025 Game Awards later this year. Insomniac is said to be actively developing a trailer for a Venom spin-off, which may also be released to accompany the release of Wolverine.

Marvel’s Wolverine has not received an update since the release of the movie trailer at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021. The game is being developed for PS5.

Additionally, Sony may share more information about Sucker Punch’s upcoming action-adventure game Soul of the Rampant, which will be released on PS5 on October 2. Naughty Dog’s Star Wars: Heretic Prophet is unlikely to get an update, but God of War studio Santa Monica may finally reveal what they’ve been working on since the release of God of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC in 2023.
