Watch Texas A&M freshman outfielder’s MLB-level throw

Texas A&M’s 2026 baseball season got off to a rocky start after it was announced that sophomore LHP Caden McCoy, who was expected to compete for one of the three weekend starting spots, is out for the season with an elbow injury that will require Tommy John surgery.

While McCoy will return stronger than ever next season, second-year head coach Michael Earley may have few guarantees about his future at the helm and may need to lead the 2026 squad into the playoffs after missing the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time in more than 20 years. However, despite losing McCoy this year, Earley will coach too much talent to compete for a playoff spot.

Texas A&M will open the 2026 season on Friday, February 14 against Tennessee State. During Wednesday’s practice, one of the program’s top freshmen, outfielder Jorian Wilson, ranked No. 1 in SportsCenter’s Big Ten Game of the Week, showed off his incredible arm after throwing a laser from center field to home plate.

Wilson, a tall, 6-foot-4, 240-pound prospect like a Final Four edge rusher, is already making waves as a potential star on the rise, and on a veteran roster filled with future MLB first-rounders, he could be on the field early this year.

During his senior season at Hallettsville High School, Wilson batted .440 with 10 home runs while also excelling on the mound.
