Ex-USC Director of Football Strategy John D’Orazio hired by Utah

Rival teams haven’t stopped poaching USC football staff. On Tuesday, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that Utah is hiring Joe Dorazio to be the Utes’ next general manager.

Dorazio served as USC’s director of football strategy for one season and served as an offensive assistant/assistant running backs coach. Dorazio has an extensive background as an offensive assistant in college and the NFL.

Here’s what Zachary Neel of College Sports Wire wrote about what this hire means for the Utes:

“The Utah Utes football program is entering a new era,” Neal wrote. “After 22 seasons with Kyle Whittingham at the helm, the Utes now turn a new page under new head coach Morgan Scalley and his staff.”

“It appears Sculley is now fleshing out his front office and starting to prepare for a new era in college football where things are looking more like the NFL than the college rankings of old. One of the most important moves Sculley made was hiring a general manager. To fill the position, he found someone with NFL experience who had also worked in college.”

“Dorazio has extensive experience as an on-field coach and front-office personnel, making him an interesting hire as the Utes enter a new era in Salt Lake City.”

But what does this mean for Trojans? Well, maybe they’ll have to reinvest in their offensive talent and add new members to Lincoln Riley’s staff in the coming days. Here at Trojans Wire, we’ll be sure to keep an eye on news of USC’s hiring.
