A distinctive smell leads to woman’s pursuit and arrest in north GA, sheriff’s office says

A woman was arrested after officers said they smelled an odor in her car after she was found asleep in her car.

Mykera Jones, 26, of Dawson, Georgia, was arrested at a gas station in Worth County after running from deputies during a traffic stop around 3:45 pm on Wednesday, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office said a deputy found Jones asleep in her car with the vehicle’s emergency flashers activated. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana and asked her to get out of the car. Instead, she headed south on Old Albany Road.

The Warwick Police Department helped locate Jones at a local gas station in Worth County.

A search of the vehicle turned up suspected drugs, a large amount of U.S. dollars, multiple debit cards belonging to different individuals, several cell phones, blank checks, a laptop computer and a loaded firearm, authorities said.

Jones was taken to the Crisp County Jail where she faces multiple charges related to the incident. She currently faces multiple charges, including fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, three counts of financial transaction card theft, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and driving under the influence.

Police said she had several outstanding warrants for her arrest.
