Winter storm approaching Erie area. See new snowfall, temp forecasts

Dangerously low wind chills, low temperatures and heavy snow are expected in Erie and Crawford counties on January 24-25. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for both counties from 7 p.m. on January 24 to 1 p.m. on January 26. Virtually every county in Pennsylvania is under a winter storm warning or winter storm watch.

Here are the latest details for the Erie area in the winter storm sweeping across the country this weekend.

Erie County Winter Storm Warning

The weather service predicts 7 to 10 inches of snow in Erie and Crawford counties between the night of Jan. 24 and 1 p.m. on Jan. 26. Areas including Corrie and Edinboro are expected to receive up to 15 inches of snow during the warning.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur during the day on January 25.

The weather service warns that travel may be difficult at times due to road conditions and limited visibility. This may include the morning commute on January 26th.

Winds are expected to drop below zero overnight on January 24th and again on January 25th.

Weather forecast for Yili area from January 24th to 25th

The weather service predicts that Yili and nearby areas will have sunny weather on January 24, with temperatures around 11 degrees. Wind chill values ​​can sometimes be as low as -14 degrees.

Temperatures will rise during the night of January 24, reaching around 13°C by 4 a.m., but wind chill will remain very low, sometimes as low as -3. There may be a chance of light snow.

Snow is expected to fall on January 25, mainly after 7 a.m. and sometimes heavy. Accumulation of 3 to 5 inches is possible around Ely, with up to 7 inches in Corrie and Edinborough. The high temperature will be around 20 degrees, with an east wind around 10 mph.

Another 3 to 5 inches of snow may fall on the night of January 25, and the lowest temperature will be around 13:00.

On January 26, 1 to 2 inches of snow could fall around Erie before warnings begin to be gradually lifted. Winds will be from the west at 10 mph to 17 mph, with a high near 15 mph. The lowest temperature at night will be around 3 o’clock, and the temperature will be in the teens at the beginning of the week, with the highest during the day and the lowest at night in the single digits.
