Full ranking

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot a 9-under 63 in the first round of the American Express in California, his first PGA Tour event of the season.

The 29-year-old has not competed this year and has yet to win the American Express Championship, which carries a prize of £1,236,000 ($1.656 million).

Scheffler leads by one shot in the La Quinta event, co-hosted by Australia’s Min Woo Lee and American Pierceson Coody.

He was tied with Scottish player Robert McIntyre and former US PGA champion Jason Day, with a score of 9 under par.

Unusually, matches will be played at three different venues ahead of Saturday’s promotion.

Scheffler birdied five of his first six holes, while Cudi had back-to-back birdies to shoot 29 on the back nine.
