President Trump has coveted the Nobel Peace Prize for a long time. As early as February 2025, he said, “They will never give me the Nobel Peace Prize. Too bad. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.” He also mentioned this in a recent letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Storr, saying: “Your country has decided not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize because I prevented eight wars.”

But even though the president now has the Nobel Peace Prize medal in his possession, the Norwegian Nobel Committee noted that “whatever changes may occur to the medal…the historically recorded recipient remains the original recipient. Even if the medal or certificate later falls into the hands of others, it does not change the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Numerous prizes have been sold or donated over the years, including James Watson’s 1962 Medicine Prize (sold for research funding but later returned to him), Leon Lederman’s 1988 Physics Prize (sold to pay for medical expenses), and Kofi Annan’s 2001 Peace Prize (donated to the United Nations Office at Geneva, where it is on display).

But the first (and only) receiver genius The medal was awarded in 1943 to none other than Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda of Nazi Germany. The book was mailed to him by Knut Hamsun, the 1920 Nobel Prize winner for literature who “often expressed his admiration for Hitler,” according to the New York Times.
