A 4.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded early Wednesday, Jan. 21, about 12 miles northeast of Indio, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, following a 4.9-magnitude quake that shook the Coachella Valley on Monday.
The earthquake struck at about 12:30 p.m. at a depth of about 2.6 miles.
Based on user reports submitted through the U.S. Geological Survey’s “Did you feel it?” The earthquake had an estimated intensity of IV on the modified Mercalli intensity scale, which is used to estimate the shaking felt by communities.
