New York Giants offer injury updates on Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen provided an encouraging update on the injuries to wide receiver Malik Nabors and running back Cam Scatterbo on Tuesday following John Harbaugh’s press conference as head coach.

Nabors suffered a torn ACL (and meniscus) in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers and his game was as scheduled.

“Malik is expected to be ready for training camp,” Schon said. “Things may change…but that’s the hope.”

Harbaugh spoke with Nabors by phone and praised the rookie’s work ethic.

“I had the opportunity to speak with Malik on the phone,” Harbaugh said after the news conference. “It’s great. He’s training in L.A., rehabbing there for a week or whatever, and working hard. I just love talking to him. His joy and excitement, he’s got some really good ideas, he’s really a thoughtful guy.

“Obviously, seeing him come out of (LSU). He wasn’t someone we had a chance to play with, so it was like, ‘OK, look at this guy, he’s really good.'” Just a dream. I thought one day we might need to cover him, and now we have the opportunity to coach him. So I’m very excited about that. “

However, sports medicine physician Dr. Jesse Morse warned that Nabors might not be ready for Week 1 due to meniscus repair and long-term recovery markers and could end up on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Scatterbo, who was sidelined with a dislocated ankle in Week 8 in Philadelphia, is now fully on track.

“He’s going to be fine,” Schon said. “He’s actually going to be ready for the offseason program on April 6. He should perform well.”

Scatterbo himself vowed, “It’s not a problem at all. I’ll be back…it’s not going to stop me,” and promised stronger returns.
