Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe said on Monday that he has no interest in participating in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest on February 14 in Los Angeles, California.
Edgecombe responded by throwing down a power dunk after the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft knocked out a guard in the team’s 113-104 victory over the Indiana Pacers. The event electrified the 76ers bench and the 18,005 fans at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Known as an ambitious player, Edgecomb excelled in his first 37 career games with the Sixers, ranging from darting blocks to acrobatic finishes. But Edgecombe won’t be showing it off during All-Star Weekend.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t do it,” Edgecomb said, via the Philadelphia 76ers .
Edgecomb averaged 15.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game and shot 37.7% from three-point range. He ranks third among all rookies in scoring and is one of five first-year players to score at least 30 points in a game this season.
The 20-year-old is impacting the game at a high level, leading the league in ball recoveries (48) and ranking eighth among rookies in contested shots (147). He is also one of three rookies to score at least 20 points in four consecutive games this season.

Although it seems unlikely that Edgecomb will participate in the dunk contest, the former Baylor guard is considered one of the top rookies in the Rising Stars Game on February 13.
