  • Illara said his side will “continue to be lean” for Monday’s game, adding: “David Brooks has some ankle issues and I don’t know if he’ll be able to play. Ryan Christie’s condition is positive and we can get him back on track.”

  • He added that Enes Unal’s injury is not serious and he hopes he will only be out for two to three weeks.

  • On how he could replace Antoine Semenho’s output: “We need players in his position and the club is working on that. We also need players who are already here to step up. It won’t just be one person; it will be a collective.”

  • Illaura was reluctant to reveal too much about the club’s links with Hungarian midfielder Alex Todt, but said on the transfer window: “We are open to a lot of situations in January. You’re not going to find the perfect player, but you have to keep an open mind.”

  • Asked how many players could arrive at the Vitality Stadium this month: “We could sign two, three, four. In our opinion, three is probably our number because we need to replace three positions.”

  • Talking about why Brighton “had such a hard time preparing”, Illaura said: “They have a lot of different routes to goal. They like to change the starting 11. In the last 30 minutes of the game, their goal difference was 10 goals, which is huge. It says a lot about the substitutes, they maintained and even improved their level.”

  • Asked if he enjoyed Monday night’s Premier League games: “I like playing football late at night because I think proper football is played at night. But I get more nervous when we’re not playing [over the weekend] When you look at other results. “
