Strong start fuels Warriors’ blowout win over Trail Blazers, 119-97

The Golden State Warriors had played the Portland Trail Blazers three times this season before Tuesday’s game at Chase Center. The Trail Blazers have scored more than 127 points in every game and have defeated the Warriors in three consecutive games. However, things were different on Tuesday in their fourth game of the season.

In the first quarter, the Warriors scored first. The Warriors scored 38 points in the first quarter and led by 14 points. Draymond Green and Moses Moody started strong, each scoring a three-pointer in the first quarter and combining for 13 points. Jimmy Butler scored 7 points on 3-of-4 shooting in the first quarter.

After blitzing the Trail Blazers, the Warriors capitalized on a strong start to complete a wire-to-wire blowout victory 119-97. At halftime, the Warriors extended their lead to 26 points. The Warriors led by as many as 29 points throughout the game.

De’Anthony Melton came on as a substitute for 18 minutes, making 9 of 14 shots, including 4 three-pointers, and scored a game-high 23 points. In the second half, Melton scored 11 consecutive points for the Warriors. Melton has scored in double figures in four consecutive games, including two games with more than 22 points.

Brandin Podemski came off the bench for 22 minutes, hitting 6 of 10 shots, 3 three-pointers and 4 rebounds, and scored 15 points. Of the Golden State Warriors’ 119 points, 69 came off the bench.

Moody played 23 minutes in the game, scoring 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, 4 three-pointers, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 block. Moody’s 14 points were his highest scoring performance in three weeks.

Stephen Curry had a quiet scoring night, scoring just seven points on 2-for-9 shooting. Curry’s seven points were his lowest of the season and the second time this season he failed to reach double digits. However, Curry did lead the team with 11 assists.

The Warriors will continue their home stretch when the New York Knicks come to San Francisco on Thursday.
