EBT card skimmers found in Sedgwick County

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Children and Families said Monday that an EBT card skimming machine has been discovered in Sedgwick County.

The agency said five cloned EBT terminals were discovered in the Wichita area. Officials did not provide a location where the skimmer was found.

These devices can connect to point-of-sale systems and ATMs and allow hackers to collect account information and PINs. Last week, DCF issued the warning after a skimmer was discovered in Kansas City, Kansas, and accounts were compromised.

Stolen benefits cannot be recovered, the department said.

Officials advise those who rely on EBT benefits to use the free ebtEDGE mobile app to protect their accounts.

On the app, you can regularly check your account for suspicious activity. You can also use it to lock your account when not in use. The app also lets you protect your account by blocking any out-of-state or online sales.

It is also recommended that you change your PIN regularly.
