AEW has filed for a trademark for a potential new event name.
On January 8, 2026, All Elite Wrestling submitted an application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to register the term “Exile on Pain St.” as a trademark.
The USPTO website states that the application has met the minimum filing requirements for acceptance and is awaiting assignment to an examiner.
AEW’s app falls under the standard category of wrestling content. The description is as follows:
“Entertainment in the nature of wrestling matches; entertainment services in the nature of live professional wrestling performances; entertainment services in the nature of the production of professional wrestling programs and events; entertainment services in the nature of TV series in the field of professional wrestling; entertainment services in the production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of professional wrestling.”
It’s unclear how AEW plans to use the trademark. However, the company usually uses such terms in special episodes of Dynamite or Collision.
The company also submitted four trademarks in November 2025, namely AEW Fire, AEW Blitz, AEW Firestorm and AEW Tidal Wave, which are also awaiting assignment from the examiner.
Tony Khan confirms who has creative control at AEW
talking about battlefield podcast, AEW President Tony Khan is opening up about his company’s misunderstandings about creative control. Khan confirmed that he is the only one capable of making creative decisions and that no wrestler possesses this ability.
“There’s no creative control. Only I have that. No wrestler has that,” Khan confirmed. “And there’s a lot of freedom to work and come up with ideas with staff, coaches and wrestlers. I’m one of the most collaborative people on the planet, which is why I’ve been able to succeed in multiple sports and build the greatest sports analytics engineering company in the world, True Media.
“We serve 29 of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball, and the one team we don’t have, their pitchers pay for it out of their own pocket. That team will remain anonymous. So we do great things. I love working with partners, media partners around the world. On the wrestling side, I think we truly collaborate. When AEW is at its best, that’s it: Wrestlers come in with ideas. I come in with ideas. We work together, and that’s what I love.”
