Back in 2023, Love was close to being an MVP candidate with 4,159 passing yards and 32 passing touchdowns. In addition to the statistical success, we also had some playoff wins and appearances.
With the Packers making the playoffs for the third consecutive year in 2026, Love’s credit will be important. However, he is currently working his way back from the concussion he suffered in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears.
Still, Matt LaFleur confirmed Love will start in the wild-card game against the Bears, but who will be the backup if things go south again?
Here’s everything you need to know about the Packers’ quarterback depth chart ahead of the 2025-26 postseason.

Who is the Packers backup quarterback?
Love’s replacement is former Tennessee Giant Malik Willis.
Willis was selected by the Titans with the 86th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-1 quarterback out of Liberty University is a promising prospect with his arm cannon and dual-threat ability.
However, to the surprise of many, he dropped significantly down the draft board. When things didn’t go well for Tennessee, he was shipped to Green Bay, where he served primarily as a backup.
While Love has dealt with numerous injuries over the past two seasons, Willis has seen plenty of action on the court. This season, for example, when Love went down with a concussion, Willis stepped in against Chicago in Week 16 and played pretty well, all things considered.

However, it was in Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens that Willis truly proved himself. He completed 85.7% of his passes for 288 yards and a touchdown.
Many believed that this game alone earned him a starting job on another team next season. With this, the Packers have to be happy with having two edge quarterbacks on their roster for emergencies.

The Packers have three quarterbacks on their active roster heading into the playoffs.
If Love gets injured, Willis will take his place; however, Willis himself is dealing with right shoulder and hamstring issues as we approach the wild card.

So if Willis is unable to make the trip, it will be former Cincinnati Bearcat Desmond Reed.
Reed was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2022 NFL Draft and played only two seasons there, playing in a total of 19 games. He then went to the Las Vegas Raiders for one season, ending up as the No. 3 quarterback in Green Bay.
