Traffic stop leads to woman’s arrest and discovery of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – A woman is behind bars after the Grand Junction Police Department found suspected illegal drugs in her car.

The incident occurred around 3:55pm on Wednesday when police conducted a traffic stop after seeing a vehicle with expired registration. According to GJPD, during the course of the investigation, K9 Loki alerted police to the possibility of drugs being concealed in the vehicle.
Police seized approximately 30 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 4 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Michelle Nielson, 38, was arrested and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. The reason she was booked was:

Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance

Unlawful possession of more than 4 grams of a Schedule I/II controlled substance

Unlawful possession of less than 4 grams of a Schedule I/II controlled substance

License plate or registration expired
GJPD said it believes this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation is ongoing.
Nelson appeared in court Thursday and was given a $2,500 personal recognizance bond. The 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office said it believed “she can be safely managed in the community,” adding that she was dealing with a substance abuse issue, not the distribution of illegal drugs.
