Money isn’t the ‘deciding factor’ for Auburn transfer wide receiver

Former Auburn star wide receiver Cam Coleman has been the most popular player in the country after entering the transfer portal last week. Still, only four teams have a legitimate shot at signing the former five-star recruit, including Texas A&M, where he originally committed before committing to the Tigers for the 2023 season.

After visiting Texas on Saturday, Coleman headed to College Station for what was supposed to be a one-day visit. However, the Alabama native stayed an extra day and was weighing his options, according to sources. Coleman’s scheduled visits to USC and Texas Tech are still on track, according to On3 insider Pete Nakos. While the Aggies may have the upper hand in that relationship, Knuckles said money won’t be the deciding factor for the Stallions wideout.

“Cam Coleman is currently on campus at Texas A&M and wrapping up his visit, sources tell On3. More trips to Texas Tech and USC are planned. Multiple camps are confident they can give Coleman the best opportunity. Money won’t be the deciding factor in this recruitment, although sources say his trade price could be around $2 million.”

In his final season with the Tigers, Coleman caught 56 passes for a team-high 708 yards and five touchdowns, while averaging 12.6 yards per catch while comparing to average quarterbacks, which may be one of the main reasons he entered the transfer portal.

It’s hard to say where Coleman stands with either team, and now knowing that the new NIL protocol won’t be the “deciding factor,” I can honestly see a situation where it ultimately comes down to Texas A&M and Texas Tech based on the strengths of each lineup.

The Red Raiders, meanwhile, could now use transfer quarterback Brendan Sosby as a selling point, while playing with Aggie quarterback Marcel Reed and star wide receiver Mario Claver could be equally attractive. I don’t think USC is a legitimate threat, and Texas will still be in the race regardless.
