Ravens’ Lamar Jackson Declares Himself Starting QB Against Steelers

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson announced he will start Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jackson missed last week’s game against the Green Bay Packers with a back injury, a week after he was forced to leave the Ravens in a 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots. Jackson announced Thursday that he would start as Baltimore clinched a win against the Steelers.

“Yeah, 100 percent,” Jackson said after practice Thursday. “I want to go there.”

Considering the stakes of the game, it’s not surprising that Jackson started for the Ravens. The decision also allows the Steelers to focus on the two-time MVP quarterback.

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said they were preparing for Jackson and Tyler Huntley, but there were some differences between them.

“I think there’s definitely some things that are unique to Lamar, but that doesn’t take anything away from Huntley,” Tomlin said Tuesday. “That’s just something about Lamar and not anybody else on the planet. But for the most part, I think they play with a certain personality, no matter who’s the quarterback. I think that showed a week ago. I think they have a lot of experience playing with Huntley. They know how to play with him, and certainly, he knows how to play and has taken some big reps in the years that he’s been there.

“… While it may be a backup quarterback situation, I think there’s some fluidity from their perspective and honestly, when things get tough, they’re going to play a certain way regardless of who’s playing quarterback. Usually the ball is going to go through the big runner and that’s what we expect.”
