Broncos check AFC West box, but have bigger goals ahead

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton acknowledged the Broncos’ first AFC West title since being drafted in 2018. However, he knew something bigger awaited.

“It’s a tough thing,” Sutton said after Wednesday’s practice. “People keep reminding me because this is my first time doing this and I do acknowledge part of it, but it’s one of those [Offensive Coordinator Joe] When we met with Lombardi on Monday, he said it best, “It’s an accomplishment, but it’s also one of those bittersweet things where you keep winning and the ultimate goal is to win the whole game.”

The Broncos’ sights are set on where to start 2025: Santa Clara, Calif., for Super Bowl LX. Winning the division title is special, but if Denver can’t capitalize on that, “it’s just another jersey,” Sutton said. “You win the whole game and it becomes another jersey. It’s part of the journey. If you lose, it becomes a reminder – if it’s your only jersey and you end up losing, it just reminds you that you haven’t done it yet.”

For the Broncos, winning the AFC West only requires one condition.

“You don’t even have a 24-hour rule like winning a game,” Sutton said of winning the AFC West. “You admit it and say, ‘OK, we checked that box.’ And then you have to move on to the next one because there’s more ahead. I know everybody in the locker room will tell you that their goals are bigger than winning the AFC West.”

The goal is clear. The goal is set. Now Denver has to go get them.
