Packers place LB Kristian Welch on injured reserve

In addition to several updates to the final injury report, including quarterback Jordan Love missing Saturday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Green Bay Packers made a roster move on Friday, placing linebacker and special teams player Christian Welch on injured reserve. There were no immediate moves to replace Welch on the 53-man roster Friday.

Welch injured his ankle in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears and missed all week of practice. He was ruled out on Thursday’s final injury report.

Welch played eight games for the Packers in 2025. He was signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster in November as a replacement for Nick Niemann, who was placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury. In eight games, Welch had three assisted tackles, including a kick and a punt. Richie Bisaccia gave him snaps in punt defense, kick defense, punt returns and kickoff returns, and Welch’s season will end after playing a total of 87 special teams games.

The Packers may promote rookie Jamon Johnson — the only off-ball linebacker on the practice squad — to help replace Welch on special teams. He played 11 games as an upgrade in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions.
