In recent days, Real Madrid has increased its involvement in the investigation.

The current developments have clearly shattered the apparent calm of recent times between the two rivals.

Historically, Real Madrid and Barcelona have defined their relationship through confrontation rather than collaboration, and this incident seems to confirm the return of that reality.

What is this story?

Real Madrid believes the consequences of the alleged payment to Negrrera may have caused sporting and institutional damage worthy of compensation.

Their strategy includes pursuing millions of dollars in damages from Barcelona once liability is established.

Across European football, there is a growing awareness among some clubs that the response so far has been too reactive given the seriousness of the situation that has been revealed.

why is that?

At the heart of the case remains the same unanswered question – whether payments made between 2001 and 2018 amounted to sports corruption or the purchase of influence.

While opinions remain divided, Real Madrid appear determined to push for absolute clarity.

The decision became clear on the morning of December 24. Real Madrid requested access to audits, due diligence reports and invoices related to Barcelona’s financial activities, despite being during the festive period.

The request covers transactions between 2010 and 2021, as well as the club’s budgets from 2010 to 2018, and includes payments to all names linked to the investigation.

In total, Real Madrid requested 625 separate documents to trace the flow of funds and determine their final destination.

As such, this step is seen as just the beginning, with club sources suggesting further legal and institutional action may be taken once the documents have been reviewed.
