1 Steeler earns surprising Pro Bowl selection as an alternate

After the 2026 Pro Bowl roster was announced, a player from the Pittsburgh Steelers who didn’t advance was designated only as a backup.

Steelers linebacker Connor Heyward has been named a backup for the upcoming Pro Bowl, behind Baltimore Ravens starting linebacker Patrick Ricard, Priority Sports reports.

Heyward was the spearhead of Pittsburgh’s push-pushing game and was dubbed the “Spartan” by the Steelers, where he played a vital role on third and fourth downs as well as in key short-yardage situations at the goal line.

In 15 games, Heyward had two catches for 18 yards and one touchdown. He also recorded his first rushing touchdown of the season in Week 15 against the Miami Dolphins.

If Heyward is named the starter from the 2026 Pro Bowl alternate list, he would join three Steelers previously selected: FS Jalen Ramsey, OLB TJ Watt and ST Ben Skowronek.
