Joe Rogan heard ‘chatter’ of surprise opponent for Alex Pereira

Alex Pereira’s next fight might not be what people expect, according to Joe Rogan.

UFC light heavyweight champion Pereira recently defeated Carlos Ullberg and Jiri Prochazka and awaits a title shot. However, Pereira is more interested in moving up to heavyweight and taking on Jon Jones at a June 14 White House event.

But a recent post by Pereira (13-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) claiming he will not be competing at the UFC White House event has many wondering what will happen next. Logan hears that something unexpected may be happening.

“There’s a lot of talk right now about him competing at heavyweight,” Rogan said of Pereira on a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.” “There’s been a lot of rumors about him possibly even fighting Cyril Gunn. I don’t know how much of that is true, I haven’t talked to Dana (White) about it yet. But it’s not an illogical move.

“He’s 240 pounds now, over 240 pounds. There’s no question that guy can knock out heavyweights. There’s no question about it. He hits harder than anybody they’ve ever recorded.”

Ciryl Gane (13-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) is coming off a no-contest fight against Tom Aspinall for the UFC 321 heavyweight title in October. The fight ended in the first round when Gaine accidentally poked Aspinall in the eye, preventing him from continuing. The UFC’s plan is to resume the fight immediately, but Aspinall’s condition has not yet been cleared by doctors.
