Nick Sirianni explains why he went for 2 late in win over Commanders

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is not happy with the Philadelphia Eagles and their head coach Nick Sirianni after Saturday’s 29-18 loss. With 4 minutes and 26 seconds left in the game, the Eagles scored a touchdown and Sirianni chose a two-point conversion, successfully chasing the score to 29-10.

At some point after the two-point game, tensions broke out and the two teams got into a fight. The fight resulted in the ejection of Eagles linebacker Tyler Steen, commander defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and safety Quan Martin.

“I can only answer it from my side, what would I do,” Quinn said after the game. “But, hey, man, it’s like they want it. Like it’s all good. We’ll play them again in two weeks.”

Quinn may be frustrated, and so will the GM’s players, but isn’t it their job to stop Philly from scoring?

Sirianni explained why he chose the two.

“Yes, we discussed it,” he said. Advertisement

Mathematically, this makes perfect sense. But come on. Before Tank Bisby scored, everyone in the stadium and everyone watching at home knew the game was over.

Still, the onus is on Washington to stop Philadelphia.

Sirianni and Quinn shook hands after the game, but only briefly. Therefore, there was no verbal communication between the coaches.

“I didn’t,” Sirianni said. “We did it again in the best possible way and we thought it was in the best interest, to get one more point. In my opinion, it wasn’t us improving the score; we were doing it because they scored straight down, so we were doing it to give ourselves the best chance to win.”

The Eagles and Commanders do meet again in two weeks, but Philadelphia will most likely be without its starter.
