The New York Jets signed quarterback Hendon Hooker to the practice squad yesterday. Hooker is just entering his third season in the NFL, but will turn 28 in less than four weeks. Hooker has thrown nine passes in the NFL. Needless to say, this is unlikely to be a signing with significant upside. Instead, this appears to be a case of the Jets signing an emergency backup with whom they have some familiarity from Hooker’s time with the Detroit Lions. Brady Cook will start at quarterback on Sunday, and if Hooker is the backup, this could be the worst duo at the starting and primary backup quarterback positions in the Jets game. This is less than ideal unless you are a tank commander.
