Play in the NFC South tends to be pretty inconsistent, especially when all the teams in the division are performing below expectations. 2025 is a great example of this, as the New Orleans Saints swept the division-leading Carolina Panthers and won one of two games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Heading into Week 16, with the division title still up in the air, this will be a great time to see how the game plays out.
Things went well for the Saints in Week 15, though, as they clinched their fourth win of the season by a narrow margin, orchestrated by rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, whose fourth-quarter breakaway set up Charlie Smyth’s game-winning field goal. It was the second game in a row that Shaw showed tremendous composure under pressure late in the game, and after the win it was noticed that he was joining some elusive company by doing so.

Statistics released by the Saints PR account show that Shaugh is the first quarterback on the team since Drew Brees in 2020 to hit game-winning drives in two consecutive games in the fourth quarter or overtime.
Shaw showed plenty of potential in his first set of starts, and it’s clear that he will only continue to improve as time goes on. Allowing him to really seal wins and dissect opposing defenses late in games is a testament to his toughness and experience at the position. Giving him a full offseason to prepare as a starting quarterback could help his path to stardom.
