NASCAR settles federal antitrust case filed by 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two NASCAR teams, one of which is co-owned by NBA superstar Michael Jordan, have settled a scathing antitrust lawsuit against the company.

The settlement was announced Thursday after a lengthy ninth day of trial in federal court. Details were not immediately released.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth Bell began the day by preparing to hear the motion, but called for an hour-long side discussion. Jeffrey Kessler, attorney for 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports, emerged from the conference room at the end of the race to inform the court clerk that “we’re ready.” Kessler then led Jordan and 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin and Front Row owner Bob Jenkins out of the courtroom and into another room for more talks.

23XI and Front Row filed the lawsuit last year after refusing to sign an agreement over a new franchise deal NASCAR proposed to the team in September 2024. Teams had until the end of the day to sign the 112-page document, and 13 of the 15 organizations reluctantly agreed. Jordan and Jenkins sued and will play under unknown circumstances for much of 2025.
