Teen shot while trying to sell video game, neighbors say

A 15-year-old boy was shot outside an apartment at Grady Memorial Hospital and is in critical condition as police search for the gunman.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in what neighbors believe was a robbery in which the teen was trying to sell a video game.

“It really touched me. I was really, really anxious just coming in here and just seeing some of the things that were going on here,” neighbor Da’Vaughn Stephens told Channel 2’s Michael Seiden.

Tenants at Liberty Apartments expressed frustration and heartbreak after witnessing the violence.

They reported seeing multiple police officers and paramedics at the scene shortly after the shooting.

Detectives returned to the complex Wednesday to search for evidence, interview witnesses and review surveillance video that may help identify the shooter.

Angel Johnson, a cousin who lives in the apartment complex, described the incident as “very tragic,” especially given how young the victim was.

A neighbor who spoke on condition of anonymity said paramedics rushed the teen to the hospital after the shooting.

Community members are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist police with their investigation.

“If you know, please let the police know what’s going on. Because we really, really, really have to stop this,” said one concerned neighbor.
