“With the World Cup year shaping up, we are very pleased that these two games have been confirmed,” Tuchel said.

“We want to play against two teams ranked in the top 20 in the world, but also against opponents outside Europe to test ourselves.”

Uruguay is ranked 16th in the FIFA men’s rankings and Japan is 18th, with both countries qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States from June 11 to July 19.

England are expected to play two warm-up games in the United States before the World Cup, in Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama.
