Electric vehicle energy infrastructure and services provider SUN Mobility on Monday said it has entered into a partnership with online food delivery platform Zomato to power the latter’s fleet of 50,000 electric two-wheelers over the next two years. Under the partnership, SUN Mobility will provide battery replacement solutions for last-mile deliveries and begin initial fleet deployment in the nation’s capital.
Through the association, last-mile delivery partners on the Zomato platform will benefit from its convenient and cost-effective battery swapping solutions for e-2W (electric two-wheelers), the company said in a statement.
Anant Badjatya, CEO of SUN Mobility, said in a statement that the partnership with Zomato is an important step towards achieving SUN Mobility’s goal of building a sustainable and eco-friendly ecosystem.
“By deploying 50,000 electric two-wheelers in Zomato’s fleet, we can reduce our carbon footprint by 5,000 tonnes per month and contribute to a cleaner environment,” he added.
Mohit Sardana, Chief Operating Officer, Zomato Food Delivery, said: “Our past and current partnership with SUN Mobility for battery replacement will accelerate the transition to electric delivery, further helping us deliver on our commitment to deliver a sustainable Zomato for customers, delivery partners, employees and the planet.” The companies said their move is in line with Zomato’s commitment to “The Climate Group’s EV100 initiative of 100% electric vehicles by 2030” and also in line with SUN Mobility Mission to electrify last mile delivery in India.
